It’s nearly 60 years since the Royal College of Physicians published its ground-breaking report Smoking and Health – the first to outline to the public the dangers of smoking and make national recommendations to address the problem. Almost 60 years later, the RCP has published another signature report on tobacco – Smoking and Health 2021, looking at the progress of tobacco control and what remains to be done to become a smoke-free UK.
Our guest on the podcast is Professor Sanjay Agrawal, professor of respiratory medicine at the University of Leicester, a consultant in respiratory medicine and the chair of the RCP’s Tobacco Advisory Group. As chair of the group, Sanjay led the production of the recent report, which set out comprehensive recommendations for the English government as it works on its forthcoming National Tobacco Control Plan. In this podcast we will look at some of those recommendations in detail.
